Roundup: The Condo Shortage Is Here

Here are some stories we came across this week that we think will be of interest:

  • Local research firm Delta Associates has released its wrap-up of the first quarter of 2010, which includes a look at the condo market in the DC metropolitan area. The are 5,226 unsold new condos across the region. That may seem like a lot, but it is actually the lowest new condo inventory in over six years. In certain parts of DC the long-predicted shortage of new condos has officially arrived.

M and Wisconsin

  • Weekend traffic in the heart of Georgetown during the summer months can be torturous. Why not close M Street to traffic, open it to pedestrians, and encourage cafes and retailers to setup tables and tents outside? (The Georgetown Metropolitan)

  • The Washington Post weighs in on the latest flare-up about the streetcar which has preservation groups resisting existing plans to power the cars with overhead wires. WaPo chastises the city for not foreseeing the issue and preventing the current impasse, but says the streetcar installation should continue regardless.
