One of the more architecturally interesting homes to hit the market in the DC region in recent memory just came online in Bethesda.
The property at 5124 Wissioming Road — a five-bedroom home perched above the Potomac River in Glen Echo — was listed on Tuesday for $12.5 million by Kara Sheehan and Daniel Heider. Designed by architect Robert Gurney, the home puts his signature approach on full display, with interconnecting structures that blend with the surrounding topography.

Inside, the main living area pairs Mondrian-inspired steel window frames and white terrazzo floors and sweeping Potomac views. This level also includes a chef's kitchen backed by a full butler's pantry, as well as a screened-in porch with a fireplace and a three-level elevator.
Upstairs, the primary suite occupies its own wing — accessible via a floating glass bridge — with a private balcony, river views, and a limestone bath with a freestanding tub, walk-in shower, and sauna. Three additional en-suite bedrooms share a sitting room.
Downstairs, the lower level is purpose-built for entertaining, with a 52-foot recreation room, wet bar, temperature-controlled 1,000-bottle wine cellar, and a split-level library anchored by a glass bridge. A fitness center and a self-contained guest suite — complete with a private patio and kitchenette — round out the level.
Out back, a 66-foot lap pool overlooks the Potomac alongside a terrace with a built-in grill and fireplace. The home also has a heated four-car garage.
