24-Unit Condo Development Pitched At Skyland Town Center

A new condominium development is being pitched in place of a planned senior housing building at Skyland Town Center.
WC Smith has filed new plans with DC for a five-story, 24-unit condo building at the development in Ward 7 (map). Initial plans for the parcel called for a senior housing building, but the developer is now pivoting.
"The Applicant pursued financing for the affordable senior multifamily building and the necessary subsidies are simply not available and will not soon become available," the application stated. "The reality is that without the modification, the lot will remain vacant for the foreseeable future."
The condo building will be part of the final phase of Skyland Town Center; that phase broke ground last year with a development that includes 126 townhomes and approximately 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. This phase will join already-completed components, including The Crest, a 263-unit residential building, which opened in 2021, as well as a Lidl grocery store and a drive-thru Starbucks.
If the condo development is approved by the Zoning Commission soon, WC Smith says it can begin construction on the development next year with an aim to deliver in 2027.
