Baily Park Apartments under construction

Construction has begun on the Baily Park Apartments at 625 Rhode Island Avenue NW (map), but the four-story development will not be condos.

When UrbanTurf first reported on this project back in February, it was going to be 16 two and three-bedroom condos, with half of the units reserved for households earning 60 to 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). Plans have since changed and the building will now be rentals.

The project, developed by The United House of Prayer for All People and designed by Susan Reatig Architecture, has LEED certification in mind, as the design includes a green roof, energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems, and the masonry, aluminum windows, and phenolic wall panels of the facade will form a rain screen system. Reatig’s Megan Mitchell said that the latest design for the apartment development differs from the above rendering, but no new models are currently available.

With a completion date of next June or July, construction and development fanatics can track the Baily Park Apartments’ progress on the McCullough Construction website, where a time lapse photo will be regularly updated.
