The most expensive home ever sold in DC is going to one of the city's most notable new names.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Washington Commanders owner Joshua Harris and his wife Marjorie are the new owners of Halcyon House, a 30,000 square-foot property in Georgetown. Purchased for $28 million in an off-market deal earlier this week, the transaction sets a new record for priciest home sale in the District. Mark and Hunter McFadden of Compass represented the seller, while Harris was represented by Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
Built in in the late 1700s by Benjamin Stoddert, Halcyon House features gardens that were designed by Pierre L’Enfant; at one point, the sprawling home was owned by the nephew of Mark Twain.
In recent years, Halcyon House has served as the headquarters for Halcyon, a nonprofit accelerator founded by Dr. Sachiko Kuno. According to the Wall Street Journal, Harris plans to restore the Federal-era home along Prospect Street NW to its original use as a single-family residence.
The $28 million sale sets a new residential sales record for DC. The sale unseats the 16,250 square-foot home along Foxhall Road NW formerly owned by Fox News anchor Bret Baier, which sold in December 2024 for $25 million.
