Raze Application Filed For One Of DC's First Fast Food Sites

The end may be near for the building that housed one of the first fast food locations along Connecticut Avenue. 

A raze application has been filed with DC for 4422 Connecticut Avenue NW (map), the address that was home to a Burger King for over 40 years in Van Ness before the outpost closed in 2023. 

While a raze application indicates that the building will be demolished, the future for the site is unclear. The owners of the building declined comment to UrbanTurf, and Josh Feldman of Feldman Ruel, which listed the property for sale last year, told UrbanTurf that the raze potential is completely separate from the sale. 

When in operation, the Burger King was perhaps best known for the 1980s movie memorabilia, including an E.T. figure on its bike hanging from the ceiling. After it closed, Compass Coffee pitched a concept for a coffeeshop at the site, but that never came to fruition. 

UrbanTurf will continue to monitor the plans for the site.
