The scope of a residential development planned for a prime stretch of the H Street Corridor has changed.

About a year ago, Christopher Martin, the owner of 1371 and 1375 H Street NE, presented preliminary plans for a new 50-unit residential project at 1365-1375 H Street NE (map) to the ANC 6A Economic and Development Committee. Last night, Martin presented plans for a scaled down iteration of the development to the same committee.

Due to the complicated nature of incorporating the landmarked building at 1365 H Street NE into the new development, that property will no longer be part of the project. As such, the new building, designed by John Linam Jr., will be a four-story, 30-unit development at 1371-1375 H Street NE, consisting primarily of junior one-bedroom and one-bedroom apartments. The Atlas Doghouse will remain on-site.

Development along the H Street Corridor is picking up after a bit of a hiatus. WestMill Capital Partners has plans in the works for a roughly 200-unit apartment project with retail at the AutoZone site at 1207 H Street NE. And an 80-unit development has been proposed for 1000-1016 H Street NE.
