It appears that traditional measures to get dog owners to clean up after their pets aren't working at a condo development in Maryland, so the development is getting scientific to find out who the culprits are.
The Capital Gazette is reporting that the Park Place Condominiums in Annapolis are now using DNA samples to determine which pet owners are leaving behind dog feces. This move comes after a slew of other measures, ranging from fines to installation of security cameras, didn't solve the problem.

From The Capital Gazette:
A “very small minority” of community associations have started taking similar steps in the last five years to curb poop problems as DNA testing has become more cost-effective and accessible, said Tom Skiba, CEO of Community Associations Institute. Usually, associations will turn to DNA when rule changes or bulletin board messages fail, he said.
The Park Place Condominiums spent approximately $2,500 on the DNA tests and twenty dog owners in the community provided samples. If there is a match, the dog owner will be fined and will also have to pay the cost of the feces being sent to a lab for testing.
