Best New Listings: A Tudor, A Co-op and Chocolate Mint in the Garden
In this week’s edition of Best New Listings, we look at a Tudor tucked away off 16th Street, a bungalow in Takoma Park with a prolific garden and a Beaux Arts-style co-op in Lanier Heights.

A Colonial Village Tudor Surrounded by Woods
Tucked away among the trees far up 16th Street, you’ll find the first of this week’s Best New Listings. The four-bedroom, four-story Tudor has a few areas that make good use of the woodsy view, like a window-heavy sun room at the back of the house and a tiered blue slate patio in the backyard. The home also has an open kitchen with a breakfast nook, a separate dining room, and the classic Tudor facade with half-timbering. As for layout, there are three bedrooms on the second floor, a potential bedroom or office on the first floor, and a large, finished space on the third floor that could be yet another bedroom. The home is just over a half mile from the Silver Spring Metro.

Takoma Park Bungalow with Chocolate Mint, Rosemary and Thyme
This Takoma Park three-bedroom was last on the market a little over five years ago, when it sold for $485,000 after attracting three offers. The current owner has made a number of improvements since then, including putting in an extensive garden with flowers, two kinds of blueberries and herbs that range from rosemary and thyme to chocolate mint, Mexican tarragon and marjoram. The home also has a number of typical bungalow features, like a wide front porch, crisp moldings and trim, and a sunny room in the back. The master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and a reading nook, and the finished basement is currently being used as an exercise area.

Lanier Heights Co-op With Garden Views
This one-bedroom is in The Ontario, a Beaux Arts-style co-op built in the early 1900’s in Lanier Heights, the small neighborhood tucked between Adams Morgan and Mount Pleasant. The unit has French doors separating the bedroom from the living room and views looking out over a landscaped garden and the treetops. UrbanTurf likes the dark wood trim that accents the doors and windows, the retro-looking kitchen and the clawfoot bathtub. The building has a few cool places to hang out, like a rooftop deck and a gazebo with plentiful seating. (The Ontario is also undergoing a complete exterior restoration.) The $588 a month association fees include property taxes and utilities (for more information on co-ops, check out our primer here).
