The owners of Ethiopian restaurant Meskerem in Adams Morgan are putting the building that houses the restaurant up for sale. This means that, if and when the building sells, the restaurant will eventually close. 2434 18th Street NW (map) is listed for $2.2 million.
It is hard to think of another restaurant that has been open on Adams Morgan’s main drag as long as Meskerem, which started offering Ethiopian food on 18th Street back in 1986. Listing agent Robert Tack told UrbanTurf that the owners have decided that it’s time to move on.
Unlike the building that houses La Fourchette across the street, which was listed for sale just two months ago, 2434 18th Street NW is solely commercial. The listing price for the building includes “all furniture, fixtures, and equipment.”
Tack told UrbanTurf that those interested in having a final meal at the restaurant should not feel compelled to get to over there immediately, as commercial sales can take a bit longer than residential sales to complete. Still, long-time patrons of the restaurant probably shouldn’t wait too long.
