An eight-bedroom, 35,000 square-foot home in McLean known as The Cliffs (map), given its location perched above the Potomac River, has found a buyer. At a list price of $33.9 million, the home is one of the priciest listings on the market in the DC region.

The property was constructed over an eight-year period leading up to 2022 by Roger Mody, owner of Monumental Sports, and his wife, but the couple ultimately chose not to move in to the new abode. It originally hit the market two years ago for $39 million with Mark Lowham of TTR Sotheby's International Realty; the list price was reduced this spring.
"We are pleased with the contract and look forward to a successful settlement," Lowham told UrbanTurf. "As the highest sale in the past three years in the region, it definitely has served as a precursor to an increase in activity in the upper brackets."

In addition to its siting well above the Potomac River, there are a number of features that help justify the nearly $33.9 million price tag. There is a dining room with seating for almost thirty people, a garage with enough room for 22 cars that can double as a ballroom, a kitchen designed with the help of chef Jose Andres, and a full-sized indoor basketball court that overlooks the Potomac.
When it goes to settlement, the home will be the priciest residential sale in the region since 2020. That year, 600 Chain Bridge Road (map), once owned by late AOL co-founder James V. Kimsey, sold for $43 million after originally being listed for the tidy price of $62.95 million in 2018.
