Construction has started on the 36-unit apartment project at the corner of 14th and Corcoran Street NW (map), and a restaurant will likely occupy the 4,000 square-foot retail space. SIGAL Construction fenced off the former Zipcar parking lot and broke ground last week.
“The ground floor is retail space that does not yet have a client but is anticipated to be a restaurant,” SIGAL Construction’s Melyssa Leibowitz told UrbanTurf. “The project will have ten parking spaces, and we are projected to finish in July 2015.”
The seven-story development, dubbed The Corcoran at 14th, has been in the works for about two years. In May 2012, UrbanTurf reported on plans for the site after architecture firm Hickock Cole presenting plans for the new project.
The Corcoran at 14th sits adjacent to the new development planned for the former Central Union Mission at 14th and R Street NW that will be high-end rentals.
