What Is Happening With One- And Two-Bedroom Rents Around DC

A new report finds that rents are falling in many jurisdictions around the DC region. ApartmentList's September report shows that rents in the city fell 1.2% year-over-year.

"The median rent in Washington, DC fell by 0.1% over the course of August, and has now decreased by a total of 1.2% over the past 12 months," the report stated. "Washington, DC’s rent growth over the past year is similar to the national average (-0.9%)."

A look at rents around the region finds that, in most places, there were incremental shifts up and down compared to last year, a stark contrast to recent years when rents rose nearly everywhere. 

"Washington, DC is the #14 most expensive large city in the U.S.," the report stated. "DC rents went down 0.1% in the past month, compared to the national rate of -0.2%."
