U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) introduced legislation on Wednesday to make Washington, DC the 51st U.S. state.

The Washington D.C. Admission Act (S.B. 51) is progress towards D.C. statehood, but it will face an uphill battle to become a reality. If the Senate doesn't end the filibuster, the bill would need the support of at least ten Republican senators. Companion legislation passed the House of Representatives last year.
UrbanTurf will update this article as we receive more information about the bill.
