As condos in DC go, this three-bedroom in Kalorama Triangle stands out from the traditional fare.
Steve Cochran and John Hutson had differing ideas on how their 2,100 square foot home would be outfitted when they purchased it in 1999, largely because Cochran's tastes lean Modernist and Hutson's trend in the opposite direction.
"With the design, we attempted to meld a modernist who likes to bring the outdoors in with someone who likes to make a home an oasis," Hutson, an interior designer, told UrbanTurf.

The centerpiece of the listing is the living room where four shades of red adorn the walls, and eclectic pieces such as Indian harem doors furnish the space. The condo's numerous windows and skylights, 15-foot ceilings and not one, but two 13-foot palm trees do a remarkable job of bringing the outdoors inside.
The furnishings give a sense of the owners different tastes. There is a 1974 Paolo Deganello torso chair in the living room and an Egyptian mirror made of thousands of bits of Mother of Pearl in the bedroom. Above one of the fireplace surrounds, there are stained glass panels that Hutson designed thirty years ago. Cochran, a city planner, said some of the furnishings are available for purchase.
Aside from the aesthetic, the residence, which hit the market a few days ago, spreads out over three floors and has two-wood burning fireplaces, a private library, an in-law suite, and a 130 square-foot covered teak deck.
Having lived in the unit for 24 years, Cochran and Hutson will miss the neighborhood as much as their home. But a new adventure awaits. They are moving to Mallorca where they have been renovating and outfitting an apartment located in a former palace.
