Retail Watch: City Sports to Georgetown

The Washington Post’s Capital Business reported today that sporting goods store City Sports will open a 10,400 square-foot store in Georgetown at the end of this year.
The store will be located in Cady’s Alley in between high-end furniture stores Bo Concept and Baker Furniture. Unlike its other three stores in DC, Capital Business reports that this branch of City Sports will have “an energy-drink bar and interactive listening stations.”
Despite news in recent months that Georgetown’s retail sector was not doing very well, City Sports is just the most recent business establishment to open/announce plans to open in DC’s oldest neighborhood.
In mid-June, we reported on the opening of a new Apple store along Wisconsin Avenue near M Street. In September, the Washington Business Journal reported that CB2, Crate and Barrel’s more affordable offshoot, would be opening on M Street next year. And about a week ago, Housing Complex wrote that Bloomingdale’s would be opening up a store in Georgetown Park next year.
