Plans for one of the latest office-to-residential conversions planned in downtown DC will go before the Commission of Fine Arts later this week, and we are getting a sense of what the new development will look like.
Renderings have been posted for Carr Properties' planned conversion of the vacant nine-story office building at 2121 Virginia Avenue NW (map) in Foggy Bottom, offering a glimpse at what will become a 314-unit luxury apartment project. Note: The renderings are subject to change after review by the Commission of Fine Arts.
Designed by Michael Graves Architecture, the conversion will reimagine the former Pan American Health Organization headquarters—which Carr acquired last November—into a nine-story residential building with a penthouse level featuring a private courtyard and pool, as well as amenities including a fitness center and underground parking for 70 cars.
The Virginia Avenue conversion isn't Carr's only foray into office-to-residential projects. The developer is also working on transforming a former office building at 425 Montgomery Street in Alexandria into 237 apartments.
The Foggy Bottom development will go before the Commission of Fine Arts on Thursday.
