One-Third of Realtors Say Inventory Stopped Clients From Buying in 2022
A new survey reveals some expected effects that the lack of homes for sale is having on homebuyers around the country.
The 2023 Member Profile from the National Association of Realtors found that nearly one-third of realtors surveyed said that a significant housing supply shortage in 2022 stopped clients from buying a home.

“The report’s findings clearly show that the lack of housing inventory is impacting Realtors' ability to find buyers a home,” said Jessica Lautz, NAR deputy chief economist and vice president of research. “Housing inventory and affordability continue to be the top obstacles that hold back potential clients in the housing market.”
Last year, housing inventory fell to the lowest level recorded since 1999 largely as the result of home buyers rushing to buy and lock in historically-low interest rates.
