Another concept has been unveiled for one of DC's most contentious development sites, but it looks this one may actually come to fruition.

Seven months after Truist bank donated the former SunTrust branch and adjacent plaza in Adams Morgan to Jubilee Housing, the nonprofit is unveiling plans for an all-affordable housing development at the 18th Street and Columbia Road site (map).

Initial plans call for a seven-story development with a penthouse with approximately 50 residential units. Designed by Eric Colbert & Associates, the project would include retail spaces on the first level, and a community room on the penthouse. The plaza area in front of the building would be a space for building and community events.

To say that it has been a long road for the development of this site would be an understatement. UrbanTurf first started covering development plans eight years ago, when PN Hoffman pitched a six-story, 58-unit condominium building for the site. Years of community pushback and court proceedings followed, which ultimately led to the demise of the condo project and the bank donating the property to Jubilee last fall.

UrbanTurf will provide updates on the progress of the development proposal as it makes its way through various city approvals.
