Montgomery County homeowners who want to add accessory dwellings onto their house without a lot of fuss are a little closer to being able to do so.
The Washington Examiner is reporting that lawmakers in the county “expressed support Monday for new rules that would make it easier for residents to build apartments onto their single-family homes.” Right now, the zoning approval process for these type of units can be long and cumbersome; efforts are in the works that would allow homeowners to skip certain steps.
From the Examiner:
“…the regulations would limit accessory apartments to one per house, with no two apartments being within 300 feet of one another, and require them to be less than half the size of the main house. Every accessory apartment would need to have its own parking space — two if the main house does not have a driveway.”
