JBG Plans to Start 134-Unit U Street Project in Fall

A 134-unit project on U Street will start construction this fall, the JBG Companies confirmed at an ANC meeting Monday night. The development will take 22-24 months to complete, so JBG is aiming for a late 2016 completion date. The building was designed by David M. Schwartz Architects.
In addition to providing a construction update, JBG stopped by the ANC 1B Design Review Committee meeting on Monday to give updates on changes to the project’s ground-floor windows, located at the corner of 13th and U Street NW (map).
The project was originally going to consist of all-transparent windows, but a Rite-Aid on the ground floor said its pharmacy required privacy for legal reasons. Two of the project’s windows will now house art installations curated by the Washington Project for the Arts, which means the PUD, approved last June, needed a minor update.
