Outdoor arena space. A Gallery walk. A night market. These are just a few of the ideas being pitched to revitalize the area around DC's Capital One arena.
This weekend, the Gallery-Place Chinatown Task Force pitched its “8 Big Ideas” to Mayor Muriel Bowser and residents of the Gallery Place and Chinatown neighborhoods.
A variety of different concepts and initiatives were outlined on Saturday, including a new Gallery Walk on 8th Street with a pedestrian walkway, a night market for the neighborhood and activating the area outside of Capital One arena.
The Gallery-Place Chinatown Task Force was formed in January after news came that Monumental Sports & Entertainment planned to move the Wizards and Capitals to a new arena and entertainment campus in Northern Virginia. The task force is moving ahead with presenting the initiatives even though the Alexandria arena is dead.
