Dupont Underground
The wait for the Dupont Underground to open just got a bit longer.
Issues related to the permissions process mean that a section of the highly-anticipated subterranean space in Dupont Circle will not open this month as expected.

“The Dupont Underground hit a delay in the permissions process, and as a result the space won’t be opening in July,” Braulio Agnese of the Arts Coalition for the Dupont Underground told UrbanTurf in an email. “We’re hopeful for mid-to-late September. Hiccups are an inevitable part of the development process.”

The section of the Underground that is set to open is the curved 14,000 square-foot east platform, which will be used to host small events. The goal is to then raise money to open the western portion of the space for larger performances. Agnese noted that while there is interest for events and exhibits, nothing has been finalized yet.
“There are things percolating, but until we can nail down an opening date nothing has been scheduled.”
