DC is Given a Very Good Solar Power Rating

A new set of rankings for solar power-friendliness across the country gives DC a very good rating.
The rankings, from Solar Power Rocks, looked at twelve different criteria in order to come with the rankings and Washington, DC was given an overall grade of B. The average payback period for a 5 kilowatt system in the city is six years, and the internal rate of return is about 17 percent.

“Washington, DC gets the first ‘B’ grade, yet continues to rise in our rankings thanks to a great rebate program and a screamin’ Solar Renewable Energy Certificates SREC market,” the rankings noted. “With a sales tax exemption, DC would get a solid “A” grade, but an investment in solar in the District is already a great bet. However, in just two short years the value of SRECs will drop by 30 percent, increasing payback time and reducing the internal rate of return.”
