For this installment of Above Asking, UrbanTurf revisits three listings in three neighborhoods which each went for roughly $40,000 above asking price.
The $40,000 Goodman Design Premium
Alexandria's Hollins Hills neighborhood is known for its Charles Goodman-designed mid-century houses, and this five-bedroom home, which recently sold for $40,000 above asking, is a fitting example of that particular style. The living room and the family room each have a wall of windows contrasted with other features, like an accent wall with a brick fireplace and walls of built-in shelving. The L-shaped owner's bedroom has a series of stacked picture windows with treetop views and an attached den with double exposure and a built-in desk. Downstairs, the formal dining room has a fireplace and a wall of windows opposite a breakfast bar which doubles as a pass-through to the bright kitchen. The property also comes with an accessory studio building.

The $40,000 Logan Circle Loft Premium
Logan Circle is another neighborhood where above-asking sales are unsurprising. This two-bedroom condo is one of several units inside a Victorian rowhouse, although the actual unit is much more contemporary than the exterior implies. The open concept living area includes a library ladder leading up to a loft with built-in shelving. Beneath the loft, the bay window doubles as a dining nook, next to recessed shelving and a fireplace across from an exposed brick wall. The U-shaped kitchen overlooks the open space and features a subway tile backsplash. Down the hall, the bright owner's bedroom has large windows on either side of a pair of glass doors opening onto a balcony, where a spiral stair leads down to a secured parking space. The unit sold last week for $40,000 above asking.

The $35,000 HQ2 Proximity Premium
A few blocks from the heart of Crystal City, it is likely that this four-bedroom in Arlington's Aurora Hills neighborhood benefitted from its proximity to Amazon's HQ2, going for $35,000 above listing price. The house has an inviting front porch with a bench swing, and just inside, the living room spans the length of the house with triple exposure. In the formal dining room, sliding glass doors beneath transom windows lead out to a bi-level rear porch above a stone-paved patio. The house has a roomy basement with a bedroom and full bathroom; it also sits on a spacious lot with a detached garage, and there are two parks within two blocks.
