A new development on the boards in Arlington would create refreshed public green space, new retail and 262 new apartments for the county.
The plans to replace the Days Inn at 2201 Arlington Boulevard (map) with 262 multi-family units and around 3,000 square feet of retail were filed with Arlington County last week. The eight-story project will also have surface and underground parking. STUDIOS Architecture designed the building.

The county filings provided a sense of additional improvements that will be a part of the new development. The developer plans to improve the bus stop along Arlington Boulevard and the protected bike lanes that border the development site. Additionally, the developers hope to turn Wainwright Road into a greenway leading to the Arlington Boulevard Trail network.
“The architecture, landscaping, and homage to the site's history will help create a distinctive corner and complete the "gateway” into the neighborhood,” project documentation said.
Prior to becoming a Days Inn, 2201 Arlington Boulevard was the site of the historic Arva Motor Hotel built in 1955. Though the original plan was to preserve some of the historical facade and signage of the Arva, this won’t be possible because of durability issues, according to the site plan application. Instead, the hotel will be remembered by a “distinctive lobby and a new blade sign.”
Note: An earlier version of this article noted Shooshan Companies as the developer. Shooshan is no longer associated with the project and the article has been corrected to reflect that.
