Just before Christmas, JBG SMITH filed plans for a new hotel and apartment project at the site of two Northern Virginia office towers.
The developer filed applications with Arlington County to convert 2100 and 2200 Crystal Drive (map) into a 330+ key hotel and approximately 200 rental apartments. 2100 Crystal Drive will become the new hotel, and 2200 Crystal Drive will be turned into a new apartment building.

The conversions are the first to take advantage of the county's Adaptive Reuse Amendment process, which helps streamline the conversion of obsolete office buildings into new developments.
"By creating this new framework, the County has taken an important first step to strengthen our mixed-use neighborhoods and foster a healthier long-term office market,” Matt Ginivan, Senior Vice President, Real Estate Development at JBG SMITH, said in a statement.
Back in May, JBG SMITH said that it would be removing the Crystal Drive office buildings from service, setting the stage for the conversions. Amazon leased space at 2100 Crystal Drive prior to its headquarter being completed.
