In a few years, DC area residents may not have to travel all the way to Las Vegas to experience the Sphere.

On Sunday, Sphere Entertainment Co. announced plans to develop a second U.S. location for the immersive entertainment venue at National Harbor, representing the first smaller-scale design model for the Sphere concept. The announcement marks a significant expansion for the company following the success of its Las Vegas Sphere, which was recently ranked as the top-grossing venue worldwide in 2025.

The proposed Maryland venue will accommodate approximately 6,000 guests, a smaller version of the 17,500-seat capacity of the Las Vegas original. Despite its reduced size, the facility will feature Sphere Entertainment's signature technologies, including the world's highest-resolution LED screen, immersive sound systems, and 4D effects. The venue will also showcase the distinctive Exosphere, the massive exterior LED display that has become synonymous with the Sphere brand, allowing it to present both artistic and commercial content to audiences across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The economic implications of the project are substantial, with expectations that the venue will generate more than $1 billion in annual economic impact once operational. Maryland Governor Wes Moore described the initiative as one of the largest economic development projects in Prince George's County history.

While the announcement represents a significant milestone, the project remains contingent upon the negotiation and execution of a number of agreements, as well as securing necessary governmental approvals and incentives from Prince George's County and Maryland. No timeline for construction or opening has been announced.
