Plans for a shorter version of a new residential project near a prominently sited 16th Street church have officially been filed with DC.

Dila Development filed revised plans earlier this month with DC's Historic Preservation Board (HPRB) for a six-story, 32-unit condominium building just south of the Unification Church at 1610 Columbia Road NW (map).

The developer originally filed plans last November for nine-story development adjacent to the church, but after receiving concerns from neighbors and the HPRB about the height of the project, they proposed a shorter option in December.

The plans for the new building, designed by 2Plys Architecture and Development, appear to be part of bigger plans for the church property.

"The new condominium is anticipated to be part of a larger site redevelopment project that will include the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the historic church building into residential apartments," Dila said in the November filing. "The massing of the new construction is intended to relate to the streetscape of Sixteenth Street and be subservient to the historic church building."
