Redevelopment plans are moving forward for three buildings along Wilson Boulevard near Courthouse.
Fortis has proposed to develop the sites of the National Science Teaching Association building, as well as buildings that were occupied by Rhodeside Grill and Il Radicchio restaurant, into a new residential project at 1805 Clarendon Boulevard and 1840 Wilson Boulevard (map). The plans are going before Arlington's Site Plan Review Committee this week.

The new seven-story mixed-use building, designed by Cooper Carry, would have 188 apartments, as well as 12,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. In addition to six levels of apartments, there would be loft units on the first floor. The new project would have 118 vehicle parking spaces and 89 bicycle spaces.
The newly proposed site plan amendment would switch gears from the plan approved by the county for the site nearly 20 years ago. In 2005, the County Board approved a site plan for the development of a 6-story office building with 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. This site plan amendment submitted by Fortis, which acquired the properties a year ago, would supersede the previous approval.
