125-Unit Apartment Building Planned For Kalorama Road: Figure 1
Dorchester House

A new 125-unit apartment building is on the boards for Kalorama Road between 16th Street and 17th Street NW.

The new project will be constructed in the parking lot adjacent to the Dorchester House at 2480 16th Street NW (map), and it appears that it could be an extension of the Dorchester House. Details about the building are sparse at the moment, but we hear that it will have approximately 125 rental units and two levels of underground parking. While there is no firm timeline, Dorchester House residents who use the lot have been told they will need to find other parking accommodations as of October 1, an indication that ground will be broken soon after that.

Stay tuned for more information.

It sounds like they are dusting off old plans for the addition that was proposed several years ago. The building actually would front on 17th St between Kalorama and Euclid Sts, and was opposed by the neighborhood association due to its height (surprise, surprise).

Not all residents opposed it. I live across the street and was excited by the project as were many of my neighbors.

So, the project was shot down previously -- for good reason -- and they just wait a while and try to push it through again? 125 units is FAR too much for that particular location.

qtip - a project there would be great. not 125 units though.
