Last month, UrbanTurf reported on the redevelopment plans for the former Town Danceboutique building in Shaw. Now, it appears that work could begin at the site by the end of the month.
Jefferson Apartment Group is planning to redevelop 2009 8th Street NW (map) into a 70 foot-tall building with 132 apartments above 16,392 square feet of commercial space. There will be habitable penthouse space and inclusionary zoning units. A below-grade level will provide 48 residential and nine retail parking spaces along with 46 bicycle spaces. Hickok Cole is the architect.

DFM Development has been enlisted to expedite the by-right project, which is taking advantage of DCRA's Velocity permit expediting program.
In anticipation of the sidewalk closures needed to begin work on the site this month, the development team presented the plans for the site to a meeting of the ANC 1B transportation committee in mid-August, securing the committee's unanimous approval for the construction management plans. The full ANC 1B is expected to approve a letter to support closing the sidewalk in front of the site at their September meeting.
Since permits were issued, the development team has found it may need to raze the building entirely rather than preserving and incorporating the west façade, instead reconstructing the façade using bricks from the old building.
