In this edition of What X Rents, UrbanTurf looks at rentals in the $3,500-a-month range to see how far that budget will take a renter in different parts of the city.

The floorplan of this home at 11th and R Street NW is spread out over three levels. The first floor features a kitchen with updated appliances and sleek electric blue cabinets, and an open dining area. Access to the home’s backyard is also on this level. The second floor features a living room and a full bathroom. Finally, on the third level are the bedrooms. The master bedroom has a large bay window but it’s the second bedroom that is more attractive. It has access to a balcony, and, from here, a winding staircase leads to a rooftop deck.

This rowhouse north of H Street NE is a good option for renters who want to be close to the action but don’t want to sacrifice space and modern finishings. The four-bedroom home has hardwood floors throughout, a mostly open floor plan and a galley-style kitchen that features stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Upstairs, the bathrooms follow this theme with newer finishings and modern decoration. One of the bedrooms has a separate seating area that, with its large bright windows, could make for a nice small office space.
