For this year's inaugural edition of What X Buys, UrbanTurf rounds up some options for prospective homebuyers who have $2.1 million to spare.

A Lakefront Estate in Fairfax County

Overlooking the 135-acre Lake Barcroft, this seven-bedroom contemporary house sits on a corner perch. Massive picture windows offer sweeping views of the lake on multiple sides of the home, broken up by a stone-clad corner fireplace. The three bedrooms on the main level also have huge windows with lake and treetop views, including the owner's bedroom that also has terrace access and is open to its skylit en-suite. The lower level has a second kitchen and an abundance of bonus rooms, including a den with flagstone flooring and windows into the adjacent indoor pool room. There is also a skylit al fresco pool attached to the carport and an additional deck at the lake's edge.

A small foyer is just past the tiled vestibule, with the living room to the left featuring a bay with archtop window and a fireplace at an angle with a decorative iron grate. The family room is next with an arched fireplace bookended by built-in shelving units. The kitchen at the back of the main level has double exposure and a breakfast bar island along with a full-height glass door that leads out to the stone-paved rear yard. The owner's bedroom has a bay window seating nook and a customized walk-in closet, as well as an en-suite with a decorative fireplace alcove.
