A $1,500 Rental Budget in DC Gets You 510 Square Feet, Per Report

A recent analysis reveals that, out of the largest 20 cities in the U.S., DC is the fifth most-expensive for renters. With an average price per square foot of $2.95, a renter with a $1,500 budget can expect to get a 510 square-foot unit in the city, according to ApartmentList.

"In the Washington metro overall, the average price per square foot is $1.63, meaning that $1,500 will get you 920 square feet," the report stated.

The price per square foot is higher in Boston and in cities in New York and California. If you want the most bang for your buck, head to the Midwest. The lowest rental rate per square foot is in Waynesville, Missouri, where rents average $0.51 per square foot, affording a 2,920 square-foot apartment for those with a $1,500 a month budget.
The data for this report is based on the average price per square foot of units listed on Apartment List over the past six months.
