On Monday, Metro announced the selection of the developer that will build a mixed-use project at the Deanwood Metro station, a project that will include a new branch of the DC Public Library.

A team led by Northern Real Estate Urban Ventures (NREUV) and the Nix Development Company (NixDev) will construct 169 mixed-income residential units (50% of which will be affordable), ground floor retail and a 20,000 square-foot library on a plot adjacent to the Metro station. Architect Cunningham Quill and contractor Bozzuto Construction Company are also part of the development team.

“Deanwood station is a fantastic example of Metro working with the city and the local community to replace a mostly empty parking lot with a development that will enhance the neighborhood,” Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke said in a release.

It was just last summer that Metro began soliciting proposals for the roughly one-acre lot near the station. While the development team was picked today, it will likely be several years before work begins: ground is not expected to break until 2028.
