This Week's Find: House Hunting for John Wall
715 6th Street NW, #603
The Washington Post did a big profile on Washington Wizard John Wall recently, offering a glimpse into the first-round draft pick’s life in DC, his cooking habits and diet, his tight relationship with his mom and inner circle, and — what naturally caught our eye — his taste in real estate. The article mentions how Wall considered living in Arlington but ultimately opted to be closer to work, renting a place just a few blocks from the Verizon Center. The project itself is conspicuously unnamed, but it is clearly a new, high-end downtown apartment building.
Knowing that new, luxury apartments in this area of DC can command $4,000 to $5,000 a month in rent, we decided that This Week’s Find should be dedicated to the Wizard’s star player to let him know that there are less-expensive options close to his office that he could invest in, if so inclined.
Bedroom
This Week’s Find is a 1,200 square-foot two-bedroom condo in The Cosmopolitan, which sits on the same block as the Verizon Center. The living space is fairly long and spacious with a large set of windows, a gas fireplace and a small seating area next to the kitchen. The 46-unit building has a fitness center, a roof deck and a front desk, among its amenities, but does not offer parking. (However, the lack of parking may be a good thing, given the grief Wall has been given for driving to work.) According to Google Maps, Wall’s daily commute would be just under a minute by foot.
Monthly payments (with 20 percent down) would come to just over $3,000 a month (condo fees included). Of course, Mr. Wall could likely make it an all-cash transaction if he wanted.
