This Week's Find: Art, Wine and 6,000 Square Feet Near Observatory Circle
The exterior of 3532 Edmunds Street NW belies a modern interior.
This Week’s Find places great emphasis on two of Giorgio Furioso’s passions: art and wine.
Furioso, a long-time real estate developer in DC who was once an aspiring artist, spent two years restoring a classic-looking home on Edmunds Street NW near Observatory Circle into a 6,000 square-foot residence that combines classic touches with a modern aesthetic.
The home’s great room.
The centerpiece of the listing is the great room. The 900 square-foot room off the back of the house has 18-foot ceilings and a towering rear wall made entirely of glass. The room is outfitted with museum quality lighting and UV protection meant to display an art collection. The room also has radiant floor heating, a custom-built fireplace with a hearth that matches the home’s front walkway, and a surround sound system.

The wine cellar was constructed with Furioso’s oenophile tendencies in mind. (Furioso purchased two vineyards and a winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in 2014.) Tucked behind a code-locked door, the 150 square-foot room operates on it’s own thermostat, and is equipped with a back-up generator and a special thermos to measure the temperature of wine in the bottles.

During the restoration, no walls were knocked down in the original house and all the doors, fixtures, hardware were preserved.
“Anything new in the original part of the home was added because the previous piece wasn’t salvageable, but new pieces are true to the period when the home was originally constructed,” listing agent Chena Bolton told UrbanTurf.
