The Smallest/Coolest Home Contest
Renters and home owners in the DC area who have made very efficient use of a small apartment (and decorated it stylishly) may want to consider entering Apartment Therapy’s Smallest/Coolest Home Contest.
For the seventh year in a row, the home/apartment decorating website is running a contest where entrants can show off their “beautiful small [living] spaces” and in the process, compete for some fairly high-end prizes.
While the maximum square footage allowed (1,000 square feet) is not small from the perspective of most city dwellers, the contest is split into four size divisions:
- TEENY-TINY — 400 square feet and under
- TINY — 600 square feet and under (but over 400 square feet)
- LITTLE — 800 square feet and under (but over 600 square feet)
- SMALL — Under 1,000 square feet (but over 800 square feet)
The contest started this past Friday and entries will be accepted until the end of the day on April 20th. The grand prize winner will receive a $4,000 Best Buy gift card, an online color consultation and five gallons of Benjamin Moore paint. Each of the finalists in the categories above will win a 32 MB Apple iPad 2.
So far, UrbanTurf’s favorite DC entry is Laura’s 360 square-foot studio, which was entered in the TEENY-TINY category. The floorplan makes it look more like a one-bedroom, but nevertheless, Laura seems to have done some pretty creative stuff with a small amount of space (e.g. the innovative bed lofting pictured). Also, her apartment is representative of what people would consider a “small” living space by DC standards.
