The End is Here: Raze Permit Filed For Wendy's at Dave Thomas Circle

One of the most infamous fast food buildings in DC will soon be gone.
An application to raze the Wendy's restaurant at New York and Florida Avenues was filed with DC on Tuesday. In 2021, DC seized the site where the Wendy's is located through eminent domain. The city ultimately paid Bernstein Management Corp. around $13 million for the land.

A major overhaul is on the boards for what has become known as Dave Thomas Circle. In late 2021, DC's Department of Transportation presented its final plans to redevelop the chaotic intersection. The redesign would open First Street and Florida Avenue to two-way traffic and protected bike lanes would be added on streets around the circle. The new initiative also calls for at least three new public spaces to be added around the former Wendy's site.
