The DC Condo That Broke a Record This Year

Leave it to The Wharf to set a real estate record.

In April, The Wall Street Journal reported that a 5,500 square-foot unit at Amaris, a new luxury condominium development from Hoffman & Associates and Madison Marquette at the Wharf, sold for $12.762 million. The sale makes it the most expensive condo to ever sell in the city.

The two-level unit has a home gym, three parking spots and 2,255 square feet of balcony and terrace space. So who is the buyer?

"[The] buyer lives on the West Coast, but had spent several years looking for an East Coast residence as a base to visit family in the DC area," according to The Wall Street Journal. "Part of the building’s appeal was its proximity to the water, and the buyer has leased two boat slips nearby."

The nearly $13 million condo sale dethroned a penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown as the priciest condo ever sold in the city. That unit sold last year for $11 million.
