A home in Chevy Chase that sold for above asking.

Above Asking is a regular UrbanTurf feature where we highlight homes that ended up selling for above listing price. Today, we take a look back at 2019 to see the neighborhoods in the region where homes regularly sold for more than their original price.

Using data provided by Bright MLS, we combed through neighborhoods to find the areas where more than 40 percent of homes sold at a premium.

The upper NW neighborhoods of AU Park and Chevy Chase led the way with more than 50 percent of homes selling for above asking. The Alexandria neighborhood of Del Ray came in third with 46 percent of listings selling at a premium (perhaps an Amazon effect, of sorts). North Cleveland Park and Mount Pleasant round out the top five.

There were several other neighborhoods where more than 30 percent of homes sold went for above asking, including Anacostia (37%), Deanwood (33%) and Capitol Hill (32%). For DC proper, approximately 10 percent of the homes sold last year went for above listing price.
