Swann House Auctioned, Could Remain Bed and Breakfast
Swann House
Dupont Circle’s Swann House, a 12-bedroom bed and breakfast, was auctioned off in December, but could remain a bed and breakfast, UrbanTurf has learned.
The property at 1808 New Hampshire Avenue NW (map) hit the market last year for $6.95 million, and saw its price reduced a few times. Presumably unable to find a buyer, a series of auctions were scheduled for the property which were either then postponed or canceled altogether. On December 19th, the property was finally auctioned off.
UrbanTurf reached out to the buyer Kaisen Development for comment on the future of the property, but has not heard back. Kaisen is associated with 1788 Holdings, a firm which has worked on multi-family projects in the DC area.
Those hoping to see the Swann House remain a bed and breakfast may be in luck, though.
“The future owner has told us that he intends to keep it as a B&B,” former owner Richard Ross told UrbanTurf. “We will be having additional discussions with him in the coming week.”
The 12-bedroom Swann House is massive, and as one might expect from a bed and breakfast, there are plenty of luxurious trimmings, like intricately carved fireplaces in the bedrooms, whirlpool bathtubs, a swimming pool, and a number of private terraces. The house was built in 1883 and has an appropriately historic feel.
