The nonprofit filed plans with DC's Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) this week for variance and special exception relief in order to renovate and modernize Shalom House, a 93-unit multifamily residential building that SOME owns on 4th Street NE in Eckington (map).
The three-story building currently houses 93 affordable units, but is in need of significant upgrades and renovations given its age.
"The Applicant proposes to fully modernize and renovate the building, including reconfigured units with kitchens and bathrooms in each unit," BZA documents stated. "Following the renovation, the Building will contain 73 single-occupancy efficiency apartments and no rooming units."
All of the apartments will be for DC residents with median family incomes (MFI) at or below 60%.
