All You Need to Know About a Home From a Photo, Part II
The internet has made the house hunting experience easier in any number of ways, and the smartphone has been a big part of that.
In March 2012, UrbanTurf reported on the launch of HomeSnap, a DC-based app that allows users to take a photo of a home for sale and get pertinent listing information through their iPhone. The app provides the user with information ranging from the home’s current value to its last sale to local schools in the area.
Last week, HomeSnap launched the latest version of the app, this time with a few additional features. Besides some technical upgrades (less battery consumption and faster uploads), the app now allows users to take a photo of a building and retrieve the status of all its units, including active listings, homes under contract, and past sales.
The biggest change, naturally, seems to be the push towards social media.
“Favorite any property, and it will be automatically added to an Instagram-style photo stream,” Lou Mintzer, one of the engineers behind the project, told UrbanTurf. Friends can share photos of the homes and comment on them through Facebook, Twitter, and a phone’s address book.
Iphone users can download the app here. Android users should be able to use the app in about two weeks.
