Proposed DC Bill Would Pump the Brakes on Visitor Street Parking
Provisions for street parking in DC are often a source of contention, frequently mentioned by residents who are concerned about new development coming to their neighborhoods. A bill proposed this week seeks to close a loophole that seemingly increases competition for those coveted street spaces.
On Tuesday, Councilmember Charles Allen introduced the “Temporary Parking Permit Limitation Regulation Amendment Act of 2018”, which would limit the number of days per year that residents could secure temporary visitor parking permits.

Currently, DC residents are able to obtain temporary parking permits at their local police stations, with each permit valid for 15 days. There isn't a limit on how many times one can get a permit. Allen's proposed bill would amend municipal regulations to restrict temporary visitor passes to 30 calendar days per year. Each household also has, and would retain, the option of applying for a one-year visitor parking pass.
