One of the most expensive homes to ever be listed in Chevy Chase, DC has a new owner.
Built almost a century ago, 5320 27th Street NW sold last week for $6.4 million. The five-bedroom, eight-bath estate at the edge of Rock Creek Park was listed with Eileen McGrath and Patrick Chauvin of Washington Fine Properties; Ron Mangas of TTR Sotheby's brought the buyer.
While the luxury listing has the usual trappings of a home carrying this price tag -- movie theater, walk-in wine cellar, tennis courts and pool -- there are some interesting historic aspects as well.
The wrought iron fence and gates of the home came from The White House, after the previous gates at the presidential residence were not deemed adequate enough following an attempted attack on President Truman in 1950.
There is a Civil War cannon on the grounds, as well as an old trolley station in the rear gardens that once stood in front of a U.S. Senate office building.
