Now Selling: Condos in a Converted Capitol Hill Church

In 1941, the Salvation Army built a small brick church on Capitol Hill, with art deco and gothic details. This past year, the building was both renovated and expanded, becoming Cambridge Row: a European-inspired, boutique condominium that is now selling at 12th and G Streets SE (map).
Many of the building’s original architectural details—large windows, a decorative parapet roofline and 12- to 15-foot ceilings—were preserved during the construction of 12 condominiums. An adjoining building containing 13 new-build condominiums was then built on the property’s former parking lot.
Each studio, junior one-bedroom, one-, two- and three-bedroom home at Cambridge Row features unique and efficient layouts that maximize every inch of living space. Interiors include 9- to 14-foot ceilings, wide-plank hardwood flooring throughout, state-of-the-art soundproofing, high-gloss lacquer cabinetry and quartz countertops. Some homes are two stories and feature spiral staircases leading to private rooftop terraces; others feature french doors opening to Juliette balconies.
Residences that don’t include private terraces have access to a community roofdeck—and given that the building is two floors taller than most of the neighborhood’s townhomes, residents have amazing views of the neighborhood and the Capitol Building dome.
Cambridge Row is located 2 blocks from the Potomac Avenue Metro and 5 blocks from the Eastern Market Metro. Within walking distance are the restaurants and bars at Barracks Row, Eastern Market’s weekly flea market, Yes! Organic Market, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Lincoln Park and even Nationals Park.
Pricing ranges from the high $200s to the mid $600s. On-site parking is available for an additional cost.
Cambridge Row is currently showing several model homes, and is holding open houses on both Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 3:00pm. Weekday appointments can be made through David Klimas of McWilliams|Ballard. Reach David by phone at 202.431.1272 or by email at dklimas@mcwilliamsballard.com. Visit Cambridge Row online here.
