Never Been Lived In: Great Falls Home Sells For Nearly $10 Million

As the year winds down, some big residential sales are closing in the DC region.
The 24,000 square-foot listing in Great Falls known as Chateau de Lumiere sold last week for $9.8 million. The home had been on and off the market for the last seven years, most recently relisted for $11.8 million last November. Piper Yerks of Washington Fine Properties represented the buyer and seller in the transaction.
There is an interesting wrinkle associated with this eight-bedroom home constructed by The Building Group. Back in 2018, The Daily Mail reported that Saudi Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, a Georgetown student at the time, purchased the home. However, a few months after settlement, the prince became Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States and never moved into the house.
The listing has many of the calling cards of a residence carrying a nearly $10 million price tag, including a large chef's kitchen, a billiards room, a theater and even an indoor basketball court. Outside there is a pool surrounded by fire bowls and gardens.
The sale is just the most recent big ticket residential transaction in the region as the year comes to a close. Last week, the 35,000 square-foot home in McLean known as The Cliffs (map), given its location perched above the Potomac River, sold for $25.5 million. And a month ago, the nearly 12,000 square-foot McLean house of the former Washington Nationals pitcher and World Series champion sold for $8.55 million.
