In advance of a Zoning Commission hearing this June, UDR and Edens have added a few details and many more renderings to the record for the proposed planned-unit development (PUD) that would occupy the Maurice Electric warehouse site at 500 Penn Street NE (map).
The two-story Maurice Electric showroom would be restored and incorporated into a 12-story building designed by Eric Colbert and Associates. The completed development will deliver 299 residential units and two ground-floor retail spaces totalling 23,568 square feet.

In keeping with plans to preserve production, distribution and repair (PDR) uses on the site, the existing tenants will be offered lease extensions through at least 2023. Future PDR use could include food incubator space. Three-levels of below-grade parking would provide 203 vehicular spaces and 78 bicycle storage spaces. Resident amenities will include a rooftop terrace with infinity pool and a courtyard with a turf dog run and yoga area.
The unit mix will include 22 studios, 156 one-bedrooms, 10 one bedroom plus dens, 94 two-bedrooms and 17 three-bedrooms; nine percent of the residential gross floor area set aside as affordable, including at least one three-bedroom unit.
The Zoning Commission will consider the project on June 14th.
